Who We Are

The Samaritan Inn was founded in 1984 as a 10-bed single men’s homeless shelter. Since then, it has grown to become one of the largest shelters for our unhoused neighbors in North Texas. We serve single men, women, and families. We have the capacity to serve up to 226 residents.

Our Mission

We are a comprehensive housing stability program that supports individuals in realizing dignity and gaining independence.

Our Vision

We envision a North Texas in which all people feel empowered to contribute to our shared society.

Our Purpose

We ensure housing stability through prevention, access, and comprehensive support—affirming dignity, strengthening independence, and cultivating a community rooted in care.

Our Values

At The Samaritan Inn, our values are the set of core beliefs that serve as our guiding principles and provide us with purpose and direction. Our values set the tone for all interactions with our community collaborators, including one
another.

  1. Who We Are
    HOPE for the Housing Insecure
HOPE is a belief in our individual and collective capacity for growth that sets us on a pathway to selfactualization. When we act with HOPE, we assume best intent with each other as we lean into the possibility of what might be.
  2. Who We Are
    Heart
Heart is passion, compassion, empathy, and grace. When we act with
heart, we embrace and honor internal policies. We internalize and
integrate learning and development opportunities. We meet people
where they are, which means that we also accept when someone isn’t
ready to move on from their current situation.
  3. Who We Are
    Opportunity
Opportunity is growth, progress, and a focus on impact. When we take a hold of opportunity, we are agile to the changing needs of unhoused North Texans. This means we are open-minded as the organization evolves and changes, and that we are responsible stewards of donor gifts and community and organizational resources.
  4. Who We Are
    Perseverance
Perseverance is persistence despite difficulty. When we persevere, we take on difficult tasks and remain flexible to ensure the best work is done for and by all. This means we remain open and nonjudgmental as we trust each other to try new things and sometimes fail in new ways as we pursue success for our community collaborators.
  5. Who We Are
    Engagement
Engagement exists when we are collectively connected to our values,
purpose, people, and shared passion in such a way that allows us to
consistently act on our mission. When we engage, we are enthusiastic about our work and the mission of the organization. That means we contribute in whatever way is needed, regardless of the nature of the task at hand. We are flexible and team-focused.
