Samaritan Spotlight: Remembering Valerie McCall
A wonderful family has lost their mother. Valerie McCall was a cherished resident, volunteer, and advocate for The Samaritan Inn with a touching personal story. When we first met Valerie, she had come to Texas from Michigan to be near her adult daughter. Due to the high cost of rent and lack of affordable housing, she found herself homeless, even though she was working several jobs to make ends meet.

She graduated from our program and took valuable lessons from our financial literacy and career development classes to implement as she navigated life outside The Samaritan Inn. It was no surprise to us when she returned to The Samaritan Inn family to become a volunteer.
Volunteer trainer Paula Darby had wonderful things to say about Valerie after she completed her Office Host training in 2021. “It was a delight to meet Valerie McCall and to hear her wonderful story of her successful experience with The Samaritan Inn and how she wants to give back to help others in the same way that all of you helped her in her live’s journey…She remembers many positive things that were done to help her grow from her experiences at The Inn and also how she was reprimanded for missing her chores (after working two jobs) and how Brandy was patient and helped her get back on track…”
Staff and volunteers alike all shared what a delight it was to meet Valerie and to hear about her amazing journey. Her positive outlook on life and her ability to make anyone smile made her such an asset to our team. She was always open and willing to help in any way that might be beneficial to The Samaritan Inn, and she will be greatly missed by us all.
